Bright lights flashed on, revealing the source of the booming voice: A GIANT CLOWN HEAD!

“AAAAAHHHH!” they all screamed. Tiny Diamond burrowed into Bruce’s purple hair to hide.

“Who DARES trespass on these sacred grounds?” the clown head challenged in its eerie voice. With its green face, orange hair, black eyebrows, staring eyes, and gaping mouth, the clown looked terrifying. Thick smoke rose around it. As the clown head spoke, its teeth moved around in its mouth unnaturally.

Branch slowly took a step toward the clown head. “Branch, what are you doing?” John Dory hissed.

Branch kept walking until he was standing right in front of the terrifying face, lit against the dark night sky. “Listen,” he said, looking up into the clown head’s big eyes. “We don’t want any clown-related trouble, okay? We’re just here looking for our brother Clay.”

“Wait a second,” the clown head said, its voice sounding less ominous. “You’re TROLLS?”

“Uh, yeah,” Branch said. “So what? You’re a clown! Just the HEAD of a clown!”

What appeared to be a colored golf ball rolled out of the clown’s mouth and down its long, pink tongue. The rescuers huddled together, bracing themselves for an attack. But then the golf ball unrolled itself, opening up into…

…a Troll!

She was pink, with long, curling strands of yellow-blond hair rising into the air. She wore a white knit one-piece leotard with gold trim and a red star on the tummy, pink-and-red leg warmers, and a green cape that looked like it was cut from a putting green. Under each eye she sported a swath of yellow glitter. Her eyes sparkled with interest and excitement.

“Oh, my gosh! Hello!” she said, talking with incredible speed and energy. “My name is Viva! Woo! It is so fantast-a-mazing to see other Trolls!” She bounced from one Troll to the next, giving each a hug and an intensely warm look. “Hi! So, ‘fantast-a-mazing’ is my own personal word. It means, um, fantastic and amazing! I used to say ‘a-mastic,’ but then I was like, bleh, that’s not as good.”

“Fantast-a-mawesome!” Poppy said, impressed by someone who had their own personal word.

“That’s different, but that works, too!” Viva said, nodding her approval. “Way to make it your own!”

The five friends were slightly stunned by the torrent of words that came tumbling out of Viva. It was a lot to take in, even for Poppy, who enjoyed high-energy communication. A thought occurred to her. “Is this how people feel when they meet me?” she whispered to Branch.

“Yes,” he answered without hesitation.

Viva sensed that she might be coming on just a tad strong. “Am I being a lot?” she asked. “Sometimes I can be a lot.”

Branch tried to bring the conversation around to their search for Clay. “I’m not sure if we’re in the right place—” he started to say.

“Of course you’re in the right place!” Viva interrupted. “Any Troll is welcome here with us.” She turned to face the clown head, cupped her hands around her mouth, and called, “Okay, Putt-Putt Trolls! Lights on for
